Now this is where we take our visitors to see the truly remarkable rainforest that our region is famous for. Wilsons Creek is one of the few water courses forced westward and back into the Richmond catchment by the steep rises of the coastal range. The area commences at the Mullumbimby Golf Course with wide alluvial flats sheltered beneath Montecollum. It rises quickly then over Laverty’s Gap into the real valley. Steep water carved bluffs, rich soil and sheltered enclaves all add to the very tropical vegetation so prevalent all along the valley. Beautiful and sometimes very expensive homes hide away up private driveways. There’s Malcolm’s Corner for coffee at 3 Ways where you choose Upper Wilsons Creek (with many creek crossings) or take the Huonbrook road. Again, once in the Coopers Creek catchment you enjoy towering bluffs, rainforest, sparkling water over mossy boulders, birds and wildlife, national park backdrops and of course friendly local people. The Wanganui turn off takes you another few kilometres into recently acquired national park areas.
