This area, mainly low coastal flats with some undulating low hills, is located half way between Mullumbimby and Byron Bay. Land use varies from large a turf farm to small agricultural parcels, cattle, some pigs and a variety of horticultural endeavours. Parts of Tyagarah closer to the Pacific Motorway are coastal heath and flood prone. Simpsons Creek drains the low country northward to Brunswick Heads and thence the ocean.

The area is very popular as the location is so handy.
